The Federal Police returned the weapon to former Minister of Education Milton Ribeiro after he accidentally shot and injured a woman at the Brasilia airport, fact that happened this Monday. An employee of the GOL airline, whose identity was not revealed, was hit by shrapnel, but she is fine after being treated at the scene.
After the fact, Ribeiro was taken to the Superintendence of the Federal Police of the Federal District, where he provided clarifications. In statements revealed by the columnist Bela Megale, from GLOBO, the former minister reported that the accidental shooting occurred while he was at the Latam airline counter, around 5 pm
The former minister was scheduled to take a flight at 7:50 pm to São Paulo. According to Ribeiro’s defense, he had left his apartment in Brasilia and was moving to São Paulo. The attorneys also stated that their client has possession of a weapon and registration as a Collector, Sport Shooter and Hunter (CAC).
Ribeiro stated that, “As he had already done the ‘arms clearance’ online, he went straight to the Latam airline counter, and when he opened his document folder he took his gun to separate it from the magazine, at which point the gun accidentally fired “.
