Our national athletics team is participating in the Arab Championship for Young Men and Women Under 20, which begins today at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt, with the participation of 400 male and female players representing 17 countries. Our team includes 5 male and female players in the speed, middle distance and throwing competitions.
Our national team completed its preparations for the tournament through previous preparations that witnessed participation in the first Gulf Youth Games and the Asian Youth Cup for U-20.
The organizing committee announced the participating countries: the UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Yemen, Algeria, Tunisia, Yemen, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Djibouti, Sudan and Bahrain.
Mohamed Abdel Raouf, Technical Director of the Egyptian Athletics Federation, stressed the completion of technical and logistical preparations to host the events, in line with the importance of the event and the confirmation it represents of the development achieved by Arab athletics.
He expected a strong competition among the participants from the Arab teams in the tournament, with the aim of obtaining the qualifying numbers to participate in the World Youth Championship, which will be hosted by Lima in the Republic of Peru next July.
He added: “The Suez Canal Authority Stadium is in its best condition to embrace our Arab brothers, and all the technical arrangements and paths for the competitions have been confirmed through the work undertaken by the organizing committees, hoping that the tournament will achieve the desired technical benefits for the Arab teams.”
