2021 crowned Ford Kuga as Europe’s best-selling plug-in hybrid model. The electrified SUV from the carmaker of the Blue Oval has contributed to a sharp reduction in fuel consumption in just one year, according to a study conducted by Ford itself, even the equivalent of the CO2 emissions of a round trip from London to Buenos Aires. . Ford Kuga Plug-In Hybrid customer data, collected anonymously across Europe, showed that the average annual distance traveled was just over 10,000 kilometers.
Some of the highlights shown by Ford’s research testify that Kuga plug-in hybrid customers regularly charge their car: for every 100 days of driving, there were 71 refills. Not only that: the average percentage of charge when plugged in was 30%, which means that customers rarely drive until the battery is completely depleted. And precisely with regard to the restoration of the energy stored in the battery, the study announces that customers are taking advantage of the night charging at home to reduce their operating costs: of the 5.7 million recharges of the Kuga Plug-In Hybrid recorded during the last 12 months of data, in fact, 46% were carried out during the night, with the recharge duration longer than frequent of 12 hours or more. The second most frequent recharge duration was the one that takes place in a time between one and two hours during the day.
“Not all customers are in a position to switch directly from petrol, or diesel, to an all-electric vehicle. That’s why we designed our Kuga Plug-In Hybrid by offering the best of both worlds – explained Glen Goold, Ford Kuga Vehicle Line Director – We have sold more units in Europe than any other PHEV – all of which shows that this is the right recipe. Ford is committed to an electrified future, and cars like the Kuga Plug-In Hybrid are helping customers make this change with us. ”
