The big clubs confirmed the transfer on Thursday. Rüdiger’s current contract with Chelsea has expired, so Real will not have to pay a transfer fee.
The German national team defender made a four-season contract with Real. In Chelsea, Rüdiger won the English Cup, the Champions League and the Europa League, among others.
Chelsea finished third in the Premier League during the season. Real won the Spanish Championship and the Champions League.
Rüdiger has played in the German men’s national team in 50 matches, scoring two goals.

Mata has represented United since January 2014. He played 285 matches and scored 51 goals. Mata’s contract expires this summer.
In his career, Mata has won the 2010 World Championships and the 2012 European Championship gold in the Spanish shirt. At Chelsea, he was winning the Champions League, the Europa League and the English Cup, among others.
At Manchester United, the titles of the European League, the English Cup and the English League Cup were added to the merit list.
