The bosses Promotion of Treball has warned this Monday about the harmful effects of making permanent the extraordinary tax on energy companies approved by the Government in 2022. It has done so on the same day that it was known that Repsol will move one of its green hydrogen projects outside of Spain as a result of the central executive’s measure.
In a statement, the employers’ association chaired by Josep Sánchez Llibre calls the Government’s decision “discriminatory.” “It was an exceptional measure, said the Government, which would be temporary and only in relation to the crisis of the moment [se refiere a las tensiones inflacionarias de 2022 y 2023]. But now it has become known that the Executive intends to make it permanent and Promotion of Treball must raise their voice to request the withdrawal of this tax,” the text continues.
“This tax hit becomes a destabilizing element between the territories and free competition,” warns the organization. In addition, it considers that this tax reduces competitiveness of the local industry compared to operators that produce outside Spain or import into the European Union.
Promotion warns that “the future of the chemical center of Tarragona“, which in turn “would increase Spain’s energy dependence on foreign energy as well as entrench the country’s energy transformation plans.” In the case of Repsol, the oil company has committed 1.1 billion euros in Tarragona in various energy transition projects.
Appeal to the ‘Govern’
On the other hand, the employers consider that this tax would harm the household economy since it will raise “the price of diesel, gasoline and derivatives.”
On the other hand, Promotion calls on Government to “take all measures” to reverse the extension of the tax on energy companies. Although the consolidation of the tax has yet to materialize, it is expected to take place tomorrow at the meeting of the Council of Ministers.
