A great stir has been generated in social networks after Israel confirmed its first detected case of simultaneous contagion of coronavirus and virus of the flu, known as “fluron“.
The infected person was an unvaccinated pregnant woman, who was discharged on December 30 after being treated for mild symptoms, the Times of Israel reported.

Although it is the first case identified in that country, it is not the first in the world. The first report of flurone occurred in the United States during the first year of the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Spanish region of Catalonia on Monday identified the first cases of fluron detected in the country.
Although it is a simultaneous flu and covid infection, these cases have not presented a more serious evolution than contagion only with coronavirus. This was indicated by the director of the Catalan Health Service, Gemma Craywinckel.
“We have the odd case, but without representing a difference with respect to the others; they are few, they are anecdotal and have no more relevance,” he said at a press conference.
Although it is not the most frequent, at a time of high virus circulation there can be a coexistence of two pathogens in a body, explained the director, although she insisted that they have not been observed to be more serious cases.

Currently, countries like Israel and Spain, including Colombia, face a rebound in COVID-19 cases. Part of this, in addition to massive end-of-the-year celebrations with failures in biosafety protocols, is due to the fact that the omicron variant of the coronavirus, known for the large number of mutations it has and for its high transmissibility, which has put the health authorities of the countries in which it already circulates on alert.
So much so that the WHO assured in December that with this lineage “it is more likely that people who have been vaccinated or have recovered from covid-19 can be reinfected” and recommended canceling the Christmas and New Year events.

Martha Lucía Ospina, director of the National Institute of Health (INS), stated in an interview with EL TIEMPO that due to omicron, the positivity of the tests has grown so much that it is becoming easier to get infected, due to the high presence of infected people in around anyone.
For this reason, Ospina insists that at this time the priority is to slow down the spread with the permanent use of the mask, which will avoid not only a larger peak, but the risk of saturation of the laboratory, emergency and hospital services .
Ospina adds that although due to the characteristics of the lineage itself, and especially due to the effects of vaccination, those affected may be less likely to enter an ICU or to die, a massive contagion that exhausts the capacity for care response is not good in any case, since this would lead to suffering and potential deaths, which, given the circumstances, should not occur.
