The objective of the auction is to guarantee the supply of grain after the floods in RS; a new date will be published “in due course”
A Conab (National Supply Company) suspended the auction for the purchase of 104 thousand tons of polished milled rice, scheduled to be held this Tuesday (May 21, 2024). The company released a statement on Monday night (May 20) informing the new date “will be published in due course”.
The auction aims to guarantee the supply of rice after the floods in Rio Grande do Sul. The State accounts for 70% of the national supply of the product.
RATE ZEROED
Also on Monday (May 20), in an extraordinary meeting, the Gecex (Executive Management Committee) of Camex (Chamber of Foreign Trade) zeroed the tariffs for 2 non-parbolized types and a polished/honed type of grain. The measure is valid until December 31st.
Secex (Foreign Trade Secretariat) of the Doctor (Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services) will monitor the situation to reassess the validity period, if necessary.
To reset the tariffs, the 3 types of rice were included in the Letec (List of Exceptions to the Common External Tariff) of the Mercosur (Southern Common Market).
The measure, informed the Mdic, was requested by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and by Conab.
The Mdic informs that the reduction to zero in the tax rate opens up space for the purchase of rice from other large producers, such as Thailand. Until April this year, the Asian country accounted for 18.2% of Brazilian rice imports.
