You knew when you had a prize: a flash of light announced a speeding violation. But that will soon be a thing of the past, at least on the Flemish regional and highways. Because Flanders is going to purchase a new type of digital speed camera that works with infrared technology. And it doesn’t need a flash of light to read your car’s number plate.
It is more efficient and safer, according to the police. Because other road users are not informed that speed checks are being held on a certain region or highway. And because newly fit car drivers do not suddenly apply their brakes in the hope of still being able to avoid their certain fate.

Flanders has meanwhile purchased 34 of these digital speed cameras. And meanwhile, an order for another 40 copies is said to have been placed.
