Second day of paralysis in the Parliament after the call this Tuesday by its president, Laura Borràs, and the pro-independence representatives of the Table, to protest against the decision of the Central Electoral Board (JEC) to withdraw the seat from the pro-independence deputy Pau Juvilla. The only commission that was still not called off the agenda, that of social rights, (chaired by the Socialists, who are opposed to stopping parliamentary activity) was unable to move forward because there was not a sufficient quorum. It would talk about the extension of the law against the housing emergency, much claimed by social entities. The future of the anti-capitalist deputy is still on the tightrope, with Friday as the deadline for the JEC to execute his mandate. Juvillà has revealed that he suffers from cancer.
In one of the rooms where the commissions are held, the representatives of the PSC, common people and Citizens have arrived this morning, formations that do not criticize the stoppage of activities although with different sensitivities among themselves regarding the situation of the anti-capitalist. “The commission will not be able to proceed due to the absence and as president I can only express my deep disappointment,” said the socialist Mónica Ríos, who chairs it. The deputy she has remembered that in the order of the day the opinion was approved for the extension of the law of urgent measures on the house. “I urge members who have boycotted this commission to ask themselves who they are punishing and harming with this action,” she added.
“Stop working as citizens can never be the solution to absolutely anything,” said Ríos. The Table of the Parlament had “recommended” to paralyze parliamentary activity but the last word in the commissions is held by those who preside over them. Hence, those led by the PSC have been held but not those of Junts or ERC. This Wednesday’s list also included Digital Policies, Interior, Culture and Youth Policies that are already called off.
Yes, it will meet in the afternoon, in an extraordinary way, the Commission of the Statute of the Deputy, which will have to issue a report on the situation of Juvillà. The Parliament table proposed that the stoppage of activities be, in principle, until this body is held, but several of the opposition groups distrust this to be the case. The commission is chaired by a representative of Junts, the former deputy in Congress Jaume Alonso Cuevillas.
Juvillà was sentenced to six months of disqualification for a crime of disobedience, for not removing some yellow ribbons during the electoral period from his office in a town hall. The anti-capitalist, who left the Parliament table arguing health problems, revealed this Wednesday that he suffers from cancer. His place in the governing body of the Chamber will be occupied by Carles Riera.
