A fire broke out in a kindergarten in Salo. Children and staff were evacuated. The fire was extinguished during the afternoon.
Kindergarten a fire broke out in the roof structures at the Salon Tupur kindergarten on Wednesday afternoon.
The alarm about the fire came to the rescue service after two o'clock in the afternoon. Firefighter on duty Miikka Jylhä said after half past four that the fire was extinguished before it spread.
According to Jylhä, the employees of the daycare center had noticed the smell of smoke and alerted the maintenance man. After that, the fire was alerted to the rescue service.
“The staff evacuated together with the children according to orthodoxy. The children were in the yard for a while and then moved to other rooms. Some went home with their parents. No one was hurt.”
A dozen units of the rescue service were called to the scene. The rescuers are investigating the situation and noticed that a fire had started in the roof structures of the vestibule among the villas.
“Now we survived with pretty minor damage. The area is cleared from an area of a few square meters. There was very little smoke and water damage.”
According to Jylhä, it is not yet known why the fire started. The matter is being investigated.
