Ferrari flops in the Canadian GP. Leclerc: “Everyone passed me on the straight”
“We need to analyze the problem we had with the power unit. I was very slow on the straight, everyone passed me. I lost a second and a half or even two on every lap. Changing power units so often is a bad sign. Furthermore, it was a difficult race to manage: I had a thousand things to do behind the wheel. Today’s problem was related only to the power unit, the qualifying problem was something else and we lost the race yesterday”, Charles Leclerc’s analysis after the Canadian GP
Ferrari flop in the Canadian GP, Sainz: “We didn’t have pace”
“Honestly we didn’t have the pace: with the intermediates we thought we would go faster but the reality is that this weekend we weren’t able to go fast in any type of conditions. When you’re in the group then maybe you have more pace but you’re in dirty air and you can’t do much. With the slicks it was a little better and I tried to take a few more risks but there is nothing to do: if you are not confident – as we have never been these days – you end up making a mistakewhich in my case forced me to retire”
Ferrari flop in the Canadian GP, Vasseur on the problem with the power unit of Leclerc’s car
“We had a problem with the power unit of Leclerc’s car, indeed with the control of the power unit. This resulted in a loss of almost a second per lap for about fifteen laps. A red flag would have been useful to proceed with a reset without wasting time but it didn’t happen, so when we did it in the pit stop we lost almost an entire lap: race over. As for Sainz, he was stuck in the middle of the group at the start, then he came into contact with Bottas or Ricciardo and had damage to his front wing and bottom. And with about twenty points less aerodynamics, very little can be done. It was a difficult weekend, but not due to the changing conditions: we made life difficult for ourselves.”
F1: Canadian GP, Verstappen returns to success ahead of Norris and Russell. Ferrari flop, Leclerc-Sainz withdraw
Max Verstappen’s Red Bull returns to success in the Canadian F1 GP on the Montreal street circuit. A complicated race due to the weather conditions which the Dutchman managed as best he could, ahead of Lando Norris’ McLaren and George Russell’s Mercedes at the finish line. At the foot of the podium was the other Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton who set the fastest lap at the end.
Ferrari disaster with the two drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz retiring after various problems over the weekend and in the race. Sergio Perez’s Red Bull also retired, while Oscar Piatri’s McLaren finished fifth ahead of the two Aston Martins of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. Eighth place for Daniel Ricciardo while the two Alpines of Gasly and Ocon close the top ten. Sargeant also retired and Albon returns to Barcelona in two weeks with the World Championship. The Dutchman from Red Bull immediately takes back the scepter after the setback in Monte Carlo, and finds the hat-trick of victories in Montreal and success number 60 of his career, amidst rain, accidents and the Safety Car. The Mercedes are picking up the pace with Russell having led Verstappen for a long time, while the positive momentum of the Mclaren is confirmed with Norris in second who awaits the appointment with the success.
A day to forget for the Ferraris, both of which retired. Leclerc due to an engine problem, and Sainz due to damage after contact with Albon in an accident that saw the red car end up spinning. A double knockout not seen since Baku 2022.
