Structure collapsed in El Espinal, about 150 km from Bogotá, during an event; hundreds of people were injured
The partial collapse of a bleacher in El Espinal, Colombia, left 4 dead and hundreds injured this Sunday (June 26, 2022), according to a preliminary report by Colombian authorities.
The wooden structure collapsed during a bullfight in celebration of the festivities of “San Juan and San Pedro”, a traditional event in the department of Tolima, where the municipality is located – about 150 km from the capital, Bogotá.
The fall took place at the moment known as “corral”, where those present gather together with the animals in the ring. In the images, it is possible to see the overcrowding of the stands.
Watch the moment when part of the stands collapses (44s):
In your profile on twitterthe president-elect of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, lamented the tragedy and asked the country’s mayors not to authorize any more “shows with the death of people or animals”.
Petro also cites the Sincelejo disaster, when a similar landslide killed 400 people and injured thousands in January 1982, making it the deadliest accident in bullfighting history.
I hope that all the people affected by the fall from the plaza of El Espinal can come out of their inheritances.
This had already happened before in Sincelejo.
