There first session of pre-season tests of Formula 2, held on the circuit of Sakhirended with the absolute best time of Jehan Daruvalawith the Indian of the Press who stopped the stopwatch on1: 42.074 during the afternoon activity. The 23-year-old, fresh from two seasons at the wheel of the Carlin, thus finished at the top of the standings on his debut day on the track with his new team, beating the Australian Calan Williams’ Trident, 5 tenths behind and to his time followed by the other Prema of Dennis Haugher, third and last to have broken down the wall of the minute and 43 seconds.
A day that, exactly as happened with Formula 3 – also on track for the first of the three days of testing in Bahrain – began with track conditions that were not optimal, such as not to allow all the drivers to be able to push for effect of the dirty and slightly rubberized track. As the hours went by, however, the first half of the session rewarded the performance of Liam Lawsonwith the New Zealander of the Carlin author of the best time in 1:44 ″ 522, achieved after covering a total of 22 laps. Specifically, the twenty-year-old finished just under 4 tenths of a second behind Felipe Drugovich, in turn able to snatch 2nd place from the second Carlin of the American Logan Sargeant. An entire session, between morning and afternoon, which saw the exposure of ben five red flags – even three for Juri Vïps, and the other two for Bölükbaşı and Caldwell – but who finally awarded Daruvala, author of the absolute best time behind the checkered flag and after sunset on Sakhir. The Red Bull Junior Academy driver thus closed the first outing of the F2 in 2022, which saw the return of Enzo Fittipaldicompletely recovered after the accident occurred at the start of the Saudi Arabian GP, where he suffered the fracture of the heel.
