The thorny question regarding the minimum weight that will be imposed on Formula 1 2022 has been settled. According to information gathered by Motorsport.com, an increase of 3 kilograms has been approved, in addition to the 795 required by the original technical regulation, a decision in line with the position taken by the FIA following requests received by several teams during the Barcelona tests.
The official decision will arrive in Bahrain, but everything seems to have been defined in detail.

Several teams had pointed out the difficulties in being able to stay within the limit of 795 kg, requiring a substantial increase (there was also talk of 10 and 15 kg) to be able to keep the cars within the limits.
The discussions continued due to the position of the FIA, not inclined to grant a weight increase due to the philosophy of the budget cap regulation, and in the end a compromise was reached that does not stray far from the guidelines of the Federation.
The 3 kilograms granted were motivated as follows: 1 kilo due to the weight of the 4 tires / rims resulting heavier than expected from the initial prototypes, 1 kilo for the wheel covers (the wheel covers, not initially included in the weight calculation) and 1 kilo for the reinforcements requested by the car bottoms after some problems that emerged in Montmelò.
The compromise has remedied some problems that the FIA has recognized, but the Federation has in fact rejected requests that it did not consider justified by unforeseen events. Having had the technical regulation available for two years did not justify a last-minute request on such a delicate issue as that of weight. Especially since the FIA did not like the idea of breaking through the 800 kg wall. The eight quintals would not have seemed like a good communication for F1 …
