Ricciardo towards retirement from F1
He hasn’t officially announced his retirement yet, but the tears at the end of the Singapore GP were a clear prelude to what could happen to his career. Daniel Ricciardo. On the one hand, in fact, the farewell to Racing Bulls came due to performances that were not exactly irresistible during the season, while on the other the shortage of seats available on the starting grid of the 2025 World Cup to suggest that the 35-year-old Australian’s history in the top automotive series is now at an end.
Yet, while his fans hope for a possible twist in the negotiations for the last steering wheel still formally to be assigned – that of Sauber, but it seems to be a two-horse race between Valtteri Bottas and Gabriel Bortoletowith the former clearly favored over the latter – that’s right Helmut Marko to offer Ricciardo a further foothold to remain hooked to the F1 train. Clearly, however, the proposed role is not that of a regular driver, but of a reservist capable of driving the team’s single-seaters in promotional events around the world.
Helmut Marko’s idea
“We had some conversations – he told the German site Formel1.de the 81-year-old former driver, mainly responsible for the operation of the Red Bull Junior Team which has discovered (and burned) so many talents over the last 20 years – with Daniel, we are clearly interested. He is one of the most popular drivers, especially in the United States. But he wants to have some time to reflect on his future. I don’t think he will go racing in other categories but, on the other hand, if he were to stop racing, then why would he want to do this kind of PR activity? He’s already made a lot of money, so it’s up to him to decide how he wants to imagine the future”.
In fact, Ricciardo had already ruled out the possibility of returning to being the third driver for Red Bull and Racing Bulls, confessing that having accepted a role on the bench was only the first step to prepare his return to the track after his farewell to McLaren . At the same time, the Australian driver had also admitted in the past that he might be interested in the 24 Hours of Le Mans but not at IndyCarwhere there would be a certain “fear” to overcome when facing races on ovals.
