We are in a historical phase in which the whole world is facing a very important one transition phase at the energy level, pushed by increasingly looming climate changes that cannot now be neglected. The propensity for electrification is also growing stronger in terms of mobility, both at an “ordinary” level and in motorsport. The birth of Formula E and MotoE, the hybrid era started by Formula 1 in 2014 and by the WRC this season, are prime examples of how we try to follow the trend of the automotive sector also as regards the technical regulations in sports competitions.
For now, however, MotoGP remains “faithful” to tradition, continuing the development of thermal engines while maintaining high attention to the evolution of technology. Speaking to Sky Sports, Carmelo Ezpeleta drew a very clear picture of the project that Dorna has for the near future: “In twenty years I imagine a MotoGP that makes noise and is very similar to the current one. We, together with the manufacturers, have decided to work on petrol to achieve zero emissions in any case. There is an agreement to reach 70% use of synthetic biofuels by 2024 and 100% by 2027. I am convinced that this is the right way, but in any case we always hear the opinion of the manufacturers because it is right to decide together to them. On the other hand, we already have our own electrical part (referring to the MotoE, ed) and a hybrid championship “.
