The National and Reserve Service Authority and Khalifa University of Science and Technology signed a memorandum of understanding focusing on expanding cooperation in academic, scientific and research fields that include robotics and smart systems. The memorandum of understanding was signed – in the presence of Major General Pilot Staff Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National and Reserve Service Authority and Humaid Al Shammari, Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of Khalifa University – Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President at Khalifa University of Science and Technology and Brigadier General Obaid Ali Al-Mansoori, Director of the Information and Corporate Communications Directorate at the National and Reserve Service Authority. Major General Pilot Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun reviewed a set of projects developed by the third batch of the Elite National Service Program, which were presented as part of Khalifa University Innovation Day 2022, which is an annual exhibition that celebrates the levels of innovation reached by Khalifa University students. Which they embody in their final academic year, and members of the elite national service team received certificates for successfully completing the tasks assigned to them by Khalifa University during the Innovation Day activities.
Major General Pilot Staff Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan stressed the importance of the memorandum of understanding as it strengthens the strategic partnership between the authority and the Khalifa University of Science and Technology, which is one of the leading academic institutions and scientific edifices in the country.
He explained that the areas of cooperation focus on benefiting from the scientific capabilities possessed by the national service conscripts with scientific specializations and graduate studies, through training, qualifying and refining their skills in many practical fields and preparing them for scientific research, which is considered the fastest way to progress, advancement and well-being of peoples, as it opens scientific and knowledge horizons. The new developments are in front of researchers, especially since Khalifa University has a research cadre, engineers and university professors who are specialized and qualified in important areas that can be benefited from. He stressed that the Ministry of Defense aspires, through this memorandum, to prepare a constellation of citizen researchers who are able to serve the armed forces and provide innovative solutions in the logistical, technical and medical fields, in addition to preparing a class of recruits to serve the military industries sector as one of the vital sectors that receives great support and attention from the rational leadership. .
For his part, Humaid Al Shammari said: We are proud of this partnership that links us with the National and Reserve Service Authority in the UAE and the expansion of cooperation with them in the academic, scientific and research fields that include robots and smart systems. In this context, the Memorandum of Understanding will contribute to paving the way for many Emirati students to earn knowledge and enhance their skills to become qualified professionals fully equipped with the expertise to meet the challenges of the future. The memorandum of understanding includes expanding the scope of cooperation in the “Elite” and “Tomooh” programs, which seek to cover the number of participants annually, including students and members of the national and reserve service, in order to hone their skills and prepare them for scientific research. The program targets high school graduates who have been selected according to their grades, according to criteria set by the university in the English language, the Emirates Standardized Test (EMSAT), mathematics and physics.
As for the elite research program focused on developing solutions to current challenges, it targets university students, especially graduates of the top 300 universities in the world. According to this program, participants can choose one of the approved graduate programs if they meet the admission requirements.
According to the memorandum of understanding, Khalifa University is developing an electronic platform for all qualified candidates in the National and Reserve Service to be able to submit applications for admission to the Elite and Tomooh programs.
