Table at the Ministry of Economic Development. Minister Giorgetti: “Producing as much steel as possible in Taranto and Genoa”
Genoa – “In today’s meeting between the government, the company and the trade unions, all the critical issues of the Acciaierie d’Italia group emerged, which inevitably reverberate on the Genoese plant and in the rest of northern Italy. The company’s lack of liquidity translates into limited production in the Taranto plant and, consequently, a limited supply and absolutely insufficient use of the Genoese plants “. This was declared by Stefano Bonazzi, general secretary of Fiom in Genoa, and Armando Palombo, head of steel at Fiom in Genoa after the table at the Mise on the former Ilva, in the presence of ministers Giorgetti and Orlando. “Like Fiom of Genoa, we strongly denounced this situation, calling the government to its responsibility, also in light of the declared strategic nature of steel production. The government – the trade unionists continue – has undertaken to intervene. We hope that this will happen quickly. for also allow the Genoese site to return to work at full capacity: while the market strongly demands steel, it is unacceptable that the plants work at a minimum and the workers make redundancies “.
Minister Giorgetti: “Producing as much steel as possible in Taranto and Genoa”
“The need to increase steel production in the former Ilva plants, guaranteeing the company’s operations through the procurement of raw materials, the protection of workers and related companies, the realization of planned investments by completing the decarbonization plan “: these, according to a note, are the objectives shared during the former Ilva table that took place today on Economic Development with the Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti and the participation of the Minister of Labor and Social Policies Andrea Orlando. During his speech at the end of the meeting, Giorgetti stressed that “not only I, but also President Draghi, want to produce as much steel as possible in Taranto and Genoa, everywhere for bring all workers on layoffs back to work“.
The minister, after having recalled that although there are “objective limits, which derive from judgments, which prevent the achievement of the maximum production capacities that these plants can achieve”, he pointed out that “today it emerged clearly from the company that, under the conditions given to work at their maximum potential, the problem is liquidity, not investments. The effort on the Sace guarantee as regards bank financing was insufficient “. The commitment, Giorgetti concludes, “is to understand if with a government intervention it is possible to overcome the current financial difficultiesrelaunch operations, produce more steel and reabsorb staff in layoffs “.
The top management of the company, trade unions, the regions concerned, Confindustria and Invitalia. The company has confirmed the plan worth over 5 billion euros which aims to carry out research and development projects aimed at making production sustainable, with the construction of the electric oven and the use of hydrogen as an alternative source.
