New round of Euro NCAP crash test for the first electric SUV of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the SUV Toyota Yaris Cross, (available in hybrid and petrol versions), and three Hyundai: Bayon (available in mild-hybrid and petrol versions), the electric Ioniq 5 and Tucson with diesel, mild and full hybrid engines.
All models achieved the highest rating of 5 stars. Only the Hyundai Bayon stopped at 4 stars.
Crash test Euro NCAP Ford Mustang Mach-E
There Mustang Mach-E, the first Ford SUV with an electric motor, gets five stars and the highest rating in this test series. Highest scores in the protection of children on board and in the lateral impact tests against barrier and pole; the range of driver assistance systems.
Few critical issues were found: interference between occupants in the event of a marginal side impact; weak protection of the pedestrian basin in the event of an investment.
Crash test Euro NCAP Toyota Yaris Cross
Maximum score even for the small SUV Toyota, Yaris Cross. The Japanese car excels in the protection of vulnerable users – pedestrians and cyclists – but also in side impact tests against barrier and pole.
The only defects detected, those relating to the marginal protection of the driver’s chest in the event of frontal impact, and the structure of the dashboard, which is critical for the protection of the femurs and knees of the front occupants.
Crash test Euro NCAP Hyundai Ioniq 5
Five stars also for the electric one Hyundai Ioniq 5, with excellent evaluations in all the tests carried out. Complete the equipment of driving assistance systems, (the so-called ADAS), which obtain the highest score in this test session.
The only critical points: the excessive excursion of the occupants in case of side impact and the poor protection of the hit pedestrian basin.
Euro NCAP Hyundai Tucson crash test
Also there Hyundai Tucson gets 5 stars, with good results in all the tests carried out. The critical issues encountered concerned the marginal protection of the driver’s chest in the event of frontal impact and the neck of the rear passenger, due to the geometry of the rear seat.
The systems of driving assistance they have proved useful in avoiding accidents or mitigating their effects.
Euro NCAP Hyundai Bayon crash test
The evaluation of the Hyundai Bayon stops at 4 stars, penalized by the results of the tests frontal impact, due to the marginal protection of the rear passenger’s chest, the excessive excursion of the occupants in the event of a side impact and the poor evaluation of the automatic emergency brakinga towards other vehicles.
The Korean car, however, stood out for the maximum score obtained in the collision against side barrier and excellent protection in the event of an investment or collision with pedestrians and cyclists.
Crash test Euro NCAP Ford Transit van
In addition to the traditional safety tests, Euro NCAP also tested two light commercial vans: Ford Transit And Ford Transit Custom, after the American manufacturer made the device that reminds to fasten the seat belts for the passenger as standard on the European market.
This standard equipment upgrade allows both models to achieve the Gold rating in the specific Euro NCAP section for Commercial Vehicles.
