Dinga Bakabacreative director of Arkane Lyon, he commented bitterly there Arkane Austin closing and the other three development teams belonging to Xbox Game Studios, namely Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Games and Roundhouse Games.
“This is absolutely terrible. I ask permission to be human: to all the executives who are reading I would like to amicably remind that video games are an entertainment/cultural industry and that your job as a company is to take care of your artists/entertainershelping them create value for you,” Bakaba wrote referring to the news of the closures of Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin and two other studios.
“Don’t throw us into gold rush gambling games, don’t use us as clowns for miscalculations or blind spots, don’t make our work environments Darwinian jungles. Say we make you proud when we play a good game ? At that time make us proud when times are tough. We know you can do it, we’ve seen it happen.”
“Right now great teams are fading before our eyes again, and it’s a stab in the stomach. Arkane Lyon is safe, but I ask you to have tact and delicacy, to respect the voice of those affected and leave them space to be heard: it is their story, the one they can tell; their feelings, the ones they can express.”
Redfall but also Prey
It is undoubtedly Redfall’s flop that has condemned Arkane Austin, but it is also true that in 2017 this same team became the author of that jewel called Prey: according to many one of the best titles of recent years.
What Microsoft wanted to dismantle, in short, is a study that he could boast absolutely clear talentsalthough the latest project turned out to be far below expectations.
We talked about this in our latest in-depth analysis dedicated to Redfall and the improvements made to the experience since launch.
