Rosa Bazzi and Olindo Romano
Rosa and Olindo, the letter to Tg1: “False confessions; we are innocent”
“Dear director, first of all I would like to thank you for the attention and care you are giving to our matter. We have not had the right to speak for 17 years and no one has listened to what we say out loud since 10/10/2007 when we retracted our false confessions.” This the letter Of Olindo Romano And Rosa Bazziin prison for the Erba massacre, read on Tg1 of 8pm, and addressed by the couple to director Gian Marco Chiocci two days after the decision of Court of Appeal of Brescia to accept their request for review of the trial.
The letter is signed by both but a draft itwith some grammatical errors, it was Olindo who today met his guardian, Diego Soddu, in Opera prison. “For the majority of journalists we are monsters and that's it. () It doesn't matter if all kinds of lies have been spread to convince public opinion. The latest false news – Olindo writes in capital letters – came out two days ago and yes refers to his Fingerprints that they would have been found on the electrical panel Of Chestnut housea circumstance denied by the documents”.
According to Olindo, he and his wife were the scapegoat of the massacre: “They took it out on two people who didn't know how to defend themselves, who initially had a court-appointed lawyer who was almost always silent during the interrogations. It's too bad to let the truth out that they may be criminals who did all this for drugs?“.
The man then addresses the main argument used by those who have always considered them guilty: the confessions that were later retracted. “Try to put yourself in our place, two simple people who are suddenly first identified as guilty and then taken to prison. Alone and scared, locked in a cell for two days, without understanding what was happening.
Then suddenly, those two policemen arrive and, with the excuse of taking fingerprints again, they gave me a head like this, saying that it was better to confess because we would have had a strong penalty discountas happens to mafia turncoats.”
Before concluding, Olindo explains that all the details of the massacre recorded in the minutes are the result of what he heard on television and read on the arrest warrant, confirming that during the interrogation he was shown photos of the crime scene. “I have a lot to say, Mr. Director, in the meantime I thank you for your attention and I ask you only one thing, to report that we Olindo and Rosa we are innocent – the letter concludes – that we continue to have faith in justice and that not a day goes by that we don't think of those poor victims of a massacre that still has no culprits.”
