Paying your electricity bill with your credit card can be a good alternative to save time and avoid the power cut. However, the consumer must pay attention to whether he will be able to pay the bill on the due date.
With the accumulation of debts on the credit card, high interest rates for the use of revolving credit are charged and can reach 13% per month.
“It is important to have the money to pay off the card bill so as not to fall on the installment interest, which are among the highest rates in the market,” said the financial analyst and CEO of Vallus Capital, Caio Mastrodoênico.

Caio explains that for the payment to be advantageous it depends on the day the electricity bill is due, for example, and the day the bill is closed.
“If the bill closes on the 9th and the account expires on the 10th, it may be a good option because the consumer will have a full cycle of the term card to pay. Now, if the account expires on the 10th and the bill closes two days later, it might not be worth it, as this bill will come on the next card bill. It is only beneficial when you save time to make the payment”, says the analyst.
Another point to be considered, according to Caio, is whether the card brand charges a fee for payment of consumer bills. “If you charge, the fee should be considered as an additional amount in expenses”, warns Caio.
This October, Enel, a company that distributes electricity in the state of São Paulo, made the credit card payment method available to consumers. It can be done in site or in the Enel app and it is possible to split the bills up to 24 times.
