The electric car is conquering our cities, with the transition to sustainable mobility that has also changed the purchasing habits of European customers. This is confirmed by the data from Jato Dynamics which underlined the consecration of Tesla Model 3 as the best-selling car of the Old Continent in September. A historic first for the Palo Alto sedan that conquers the top of the registrations ranking by beating several continental best sellers and affirming the increasingly influential presence of the Elon Musk brand on a market that is radically changing.
With a price close to 50 thousand euros, Tesla Model 3 was however able to record 24,591 cars sold in September in Europe, with a growth of more than double compared to the same period of the previous year (+ 58%) but above all by detaching its rivals, all in decline compared to what was previously recorded: Clio (-23%) stopped at 18,264 units, Dacia Sandero (-9%) instead reached 17,988 and finally Volkswagen Golf (-39%) which closed the month with 17,507 registrations.
As reported by today’s edition of Il Corriere della Sera, “In Europe, electric and hybrid vehicles sold in September accounted for 23% of total registrations, almost double the share in 2020.” Tesla Model 3 is also very popular in Italy, to the point of being on the third step of the podium overall for the year, behind Smart ForTwo and above all the new Fiat 500, an authentic best seller in our country in terms of battery-powered cars. In the month of September alone, in Italy, we witnessed the enrollment of 8.492 full electric, with a market share of 8% while plug-in hybrids reached 5.3%. An exponential growth but still far from that of the other main European markets, such as Germany where cars on tap reached 29%.
