A Dutchman (35) has been arrested in Spain for allegedly running an explosives workshop. The illegal workshop was located on his farm, which, in addition to numerous materials to manufacture explosives, also had a private shooting range.
The Spanish Guardia Civil tracked down the man after reports were received of explosions in the municipality of Campos del Rio, in southeastern Spain. An investigation led to the country house of the Dutchman, who already has a criminal record for causing a forest fire. That happened when he was working with pyrotechnic devices.
Now the police suspected that the man was engaged in the manufacture of improvised explosive devices. For example, he would attach fireworks to heavy objects in order to detonate them from a distance. Including igniters that he made himself.
Lead projectiles
An intercalated search under the code name Bullman resulted in the discovery of the explosives workshop, where more than 500 grams of explosive mixtures were also found. The Dutchman also had fuses to detonate explosives from a distance, as well as batteries, cables, transmitters and lead projectiles, which can be used as shrapnel.
There was also a private shooting range on the property. The police seized nearly 500 rounds (bullet casings) of various calibers. Craters were visible on a site near the farm and a completely destroyed butane gas cylinder was found.
It is unclear why the Dutchman had these activities in Spain. The man is suspected of illegally manufacturing explosives and causing risks by doing so. He remains in custody for now.
