Dubai International Airport the second with the most passenger traffic in the world, began its reopening this Thursday after two days of disruptions and closure due to strong rainsthe largest in several decades, which paralyzed United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other Arab countries in the Persian Gulf.
The airport's managing entity, Dubai Airports, announced in a statement “the reopening of travel procedures for passengers departing from Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport, for flights operated by Emirates Airlines and Flydubai.”
The statement, reproduced by the official Emirati news agency WAMnoted that “the departure hall of Terminal 3 is currently experiencing high passenger demand“, while urging travelers “not to go to Terminal 3 unless there is a confirmed flight reservation.”
He also asked travelers to contact the airlines for the latest news related to their trip, and emphasized that “work continues to complete passenger travel procedures as quickly as possible.”
This partial resumption of activities at the airport comes as authorities continue working to unblock roads and repair infrastructure damaged by torrential rains, considered by the authorities to be the strongest in the country in 75 yearsand that have caused at least one death and great damage to public and private infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Dubai government announced, in another statement, that employees of “all affiliated entities will continue to telework during the 18th and 19th, with the exception of those whose jobs require their presence at the workplace.”
The goal is “to allow work teams to complete their tasks in various locations as quickly as possible,” the note added, stressing that “authorities intensified their efforts to address the effects” of the rains.
According to the International Airport Council, Dubai was the second busiest in the world in 2023, with a total of 87 million passengers, and only behind Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, in the United States.
