Draw for the Qatar World Cup: curiosities and protagonists of the ceremony

The draw for the Qatar 2022 World Cup took place this Friday at the Doha Convention and Exhibition Center, and left the groups and the fate of the 32 qualified teams formed.

The gala was presented by actor Idris Elba and presenter Reshmin Chowdhury and provided live performances that highlighted Qatar’s fusion of tradition and modernity.

After an audiovisual show of traditional “Fijiri” music, composed by Faisal al Tamimi and Greg M. Johnson, the American Trinidad Cardona, the Nigerian Davido and the Qatari Aisha performed the first song of the World Cup soundtrack, ‘Hayya Hayya (Bether Together)’, the mascot, ‘La’eeb’ (Arabic for ‘skilled player’) was unveiled.

The emotional moment came when great champions who had died in recent times were remembered, such as the Argentine Diego Armando Maradona, the English Gordon Banks, the Italian Paolo Rossi and the German Gerd ‘Torpedo’ Müller.

The tenderness was put by Joris, a child follower of the ‘bleus’ in the World Cup in Russia that entered the scene with the French coach, Didier Deschamps, when he introduced the World Cup. Deschamps, as he left, joked trying to win the trophy again, causing laughter on stage.

And the request was made by Infantino, who referred to Qatar 2022 as the World Cup for peace. The FIFA president asked the authorities of the world to please dialogue and to end wars and armed conflicts.
