Severe floods have killed dozens of people and displaced hundreds of others in Pakistan, officials said on Saturday, as heavy monsoon rains hit the country.
57 people, including women and children, died after being swept away by flood waters in the southern province of Baluchistan, Ziaullah Langov, advisor to the prime minister of Baluchistan province for interior and disaster affairs, said, adding that eight dams collapsed due to heavy rains.
Langove added that hundreds of others have become homeless after their homes collapsed under the weight of rain and floods, noting that the monsoon rains are still continuing.
In the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an official statement said that two people, including a six-year-old child, were killed and four others were injured when their house collapsed due to rain.
Heavy rains fell on the country in the past few days, causing flooding of large areas of Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan in terms of population, with water.
The Pakistan Navy said it had joined efforts to evacuate the victims and deliver food and fresh water supplies to the population in Baluchistan.
