In an interview with Magaly Medina, Diego Bertie has acknowledged that he had a “failed” relationship with Jaime Bayly. For years, the local show business related both characters due to the different occasions in which the journalist slipped an affair with the actor, information that has just been confirmed almost 30 years later. In fact, this narrative of impossible love arose from “Do not tell anybody”the first novel published by the well-known ‘Terrible Child’.
This book gave rise to more than one rumor because it was often labeled as an autobiography faithful to real life, for which many tried to link the characters on the pages with those who were supposed to be ‘their live action version’ . This controversy was heightened when, back in 1998, Francisco Lombardy premiere “Do not tell anybody”film adaptation of the writing of Baylywho participated as a screenwriter.

One of the most ‘toxic’ passages he comes across has its own name: Gonzalo. This character is played by Christian Meier and he presents himself as a friend without much intentions; however, Joaquín soon discovers that something more than a good time between colleagues can arise between the two.
This is how, little by little, they begin to spend more time and the torrid sexual encounters blur what at first seemed like casual encounters between mere acquaintances. For this, they both have girlfriends, but they are just ‘screens’ to avoid causing a stir.
Joaquín is not happy and decides to clear things up with Gonzalo. This does not come to fruition and they separate. However, fate brings them together again, as adults, with prospective families, but without forgetting what they once lived together.

Who would Diego Bertie be in “Don’t tell anyone”?
The book “Don’t tell anyone” offers more details than the movie allows itself to tell. In fact, there is a chapter entitled “The actor”, in which he would reveal exactly the person who inspires the character in fiction. Even so, the film does the same to maintain the connecting thread based on the pages.
In this way, taking into account that Joaquín would be the personification of Bayly, both in the novel and on the big screen, Meier’s role, Gonzalo, would be Diego Bertie in real life.
