The filmmaker and editor Bernardo Moll has died this Wednesday at the age of 47 in Madrid after battling cancer for five years. In 2016 he premiered what has been his best-known audiovisual project, Jan’s story the documentary that he shot for six years about his son, born on November 4, 2009 with Down syndrome. Moll, in collaboration with his wife, the actress Mónica Vic, created a blog that became a film with Jan’s day-to-day life. She began by revealing her fears after receiving the news of her condition to later share the joys that the growth of her son. The film reached theaters and was a candidate in the category of best documentary at the Forqué Awards and at the Medals of the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos.
In statements to the Efe agency, Moll pointed out: “People were excited, they told me how it helped them to face their cases and that was when I thought of making the film; I bought a better camera and I began to record every day everything that was happening”. Jan’s story It is available on platforms such as RTVE Play, Filmin and Prime Video. “There is a lot of fear of the unknown. I have seen how people look at Jan, many times with pity, and that he does not have excessive features. I would like the film to help the public see that nothing is happening, that it can happen to anyone and that it is a story of overcoming and acceptance”, he assured.
For years he worked as an editor on five features and two dozen shorts. The last credit of him corresponds to the animated short tied up (2022), by Carmen Córdoba González, who was nominated in his category in the last edition of the Goyas. In the previous gala, her work also reached the Spanish film awards for the short fiction the ephemeral (2021), by Jorge Muriel, with which Moll won the Fugaz award, from the short film sector, for best editing. Moll also edited another short by Muriel, a Goya candidate: The boy who wanted to fly (2018).

When Vic, during confinement, had to go into seclusion separated from her family, after testing positive for coronavirus, she and Moll decided to take advantage of the time and filmed this horror web series.
With Barco Pirata, the production company directed by Sergio Peris-Mencheta, audiovisually documented the process of creation and construction of the play Castelvines and Monteses. Another documentary has been left unfinished for that production company, this time focused on the work A moonless night in which Juan Diego Botto put himself in the shoes of Federico García Lorca.
