In July 2009, the South African director Neill Blomkamp went from being an unknown to a promising figure in science fiction cinema. With “District 9″, the film not only delivered a plot based on documentary-type scenes, but also two characters that fans cannot forget until today: Wikus and the alien named Christopher Johnson.
Over the years, and with a sequel ordered, the film is now available on Netflix, which has caused fans to go viral again and ask that Blomkamp release a new installment.

Will it be possible to see a sequel to “District 9″?
In 2021, it was reported that the filmmaker had taken a first step towards what would be a sequel. Through a Twitter account, the South African stated that He is already working on the script for a continuation that will be called “District 10″.
On that occasion, he shared that for this installment he has returned to work with Terri Tatchell, with whom he wrote the first part; and Sharlto Copley, the unforgettable Wikus van de Merwe.
Now, months after that tweet, Blomkamp has spoken about the film again. While chatting with the Dexerto site, the filmmaker gave an update: “I’m still working on it. Will we have a second movie? Yes, in the near future.”.

What will happen in “District 10″?
The end of “District 9” left a bridge for the second part. After the alien ship departs from Earth, text appears on the screen informing that District 10 is home to 2.5 million aliens and continues to grow. The new plot would feature a setting similar to the Johannesburg slum, where the alien species struggles to survive in less than ideal conditions.
On the other hand, “District 10″ will likely follow the original format with documentary-style interviews that serve as a link to this world where these creatures continue to try to co-exist with humans.
“District 9” can be seen on Netflix.
