Minister of the STF will enter the vacancy with the appointment of Cármen Lúcia as holder of the Electoral Court
Minister Dias Toffoli, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), was elected this Thursday (15.Sep.2022) for the vacancy of substitute minister of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court). He will replace Minister Cármen Lúcia, who has been appointed to the Electoral Court.
The vote for the choice of minister was made symbolically in the plenary. The vacancies of STF ministers in the TSE are rotating. From 2014 to 2016, Toffoli was President of the Electoral Court.
The TSE is composed of 7 ministers appointed from other instances of the Judiciary: 3 are from the STF and 2 from the STJ. In addition to these, 2 are lawyers, appointed by the President of the Republic.
Currently, the STF ministers in the TSE are: Cármen Lúcia, Alexandre de Moraes and Ricardo Lewandowski, who occupy the positions of president and vice-president of the Court, respectively.
André Mendonça and Nunes Marques – appointed by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to the STF – act as substitutes in the TSE. Dias Toffoli becomes part of this group.
