Defense policy Annika Saarikko: The need for additional money for the Defense Forces will be negotiated on Friday

Treasury and the Ministry of Defense will discuss the need for additional money for the Defense Forces on Friday, the Minister of Finance said Annika Saarikko (Central) on Twitter on Wednesday.

According to Saarikko, the security situation in Finland has changed and there is a good justification for the need for additional money.

On Tuesday at Yle’s A-studio, the chairmen of the largest parties said they supported raising the defense budget. In addition to Saarikko, the chairmen were discussing Sanna Marin (sd), Riikka Purra (ps) and Petteri Orpo (kok).

“Can we afford not to do that?” Marin said when asked if Finland could afford to increase its defense budget. He also said that Finland will probably have to take on more debt.

Saarikko stated in the A-studio that it has been invested in the Defense Forces in recent years, but in his opinion, the Ministry of Defense will make presentations on urgent additional needs and medium-term needs.
