In an interview granted to multiplayer.it for the 25th anniversary of the studio, the founder David Cage got to talk about the allegations moved by some former employees, which led to a trial that ended with the victory of Quantic Dream. Cage: “Quantic Dream has always had the same values since its foundation. We have been guided by the human values of inclusiveness, tolerance and diversity for 25 years. Empathy and respect are reflected in our games and especially in the way we manage the team, whose spirit was great. Today 50% of our managers are women, LGBT employees are there from day one. We have a high attachment rate of our employees: the people who work at Quantic Dream want to stay. They love to work here and they really enjoy working together, and that has never changed because it has never been different. ”
So what was the problem? “What happened is that five years ago, almost six, we had an isolated and unpleasant case in the studio with some images that were shared by someone. It took two hours for us to intervene and remove the images. But for these two hours five years ago, we’ve had a ton of weird stories spread online. Our employees were also surprised, I was surprised, and no one quite understood what was happening.“”Sometimes it’s unpleasant to read strange stories from people who don’t know anything about the studio but still want to have their say. Listen to the comments of the studio employees – this is the main message and the most important thing.“
Quantic Dream, therefore, worked to be increasingly transparent: “Our employees talk about it, we talk about it, we share it, we try to be as transparent as possible. We tell people what we do and maybe the mistake we made in the past was not talking a lot about who we are and what we do, what our values are, why we were so busy developing games and we didn’t have time to communicate “that’s who we are and these are the values we believe in “.”
However, Cage reiterates that in Quantic Dream certain values have always been present and followed: “But those values have been there from the start, and the great atmosphere in the studio has been there for 25 years. We’ve been asking outside companies for years to do anonymous internal surveys asking people how they felt, and the main reason people enjoyed working here was because of the atmosphere, the passion for projects, the relationships between people and the trust in management. So for years we have been too silent in communicating, and now we want to tell people what we do and who we are. Because if you don’t tell people who you are, they’ll tell you who they think you are, and that’s a problem.”
“There is a positive atmosphere in the office, you go around the studio and you meet people having fun and you see smiling faces: it’s nothing new or recent, because it has always been like this in Quantic Dream. And in an industry where teams struggle to hire and keep talent, because there are few talents and many projects, people stay here: why should you stay in a company if you don’t feel comfortable, when you just open the door. inbox and find job offers in the most prestigious development studios in the world? It would not make sense. It is a positive and safe place.“
