The Colombian rider had closed the Grand Boucle in sixth place, since this is the first infringement the cyclist can continue to race
Nairo Quintana was disqualified from the Tour de France. This was announced by the International Cycling Union (Uci). The Colombian, who runs for Arkéa-Samsic and finished the Grande Boucle in sixth place, was sanctioned for violating the ban on the use of tramadol in competitions provided for by the UCI medical regulations with the aim of protecting safety and health of runners in light of the side effects of this substance.
Analysis of two dried blood samples provided by the rider on 8 and 13 July during the 2022 Tour de France revealed the presence of tramadol and its two main metabolites. The Colombian can challenge the disqualification before the Lausanne Sports Arbitration Court within the next 10 days. During the Tour de France 2022, a total of 120 dried blood samples were collected to detect the presence of tramadol. Infringements of the ban on the use of tramadol in competition are offenses provided for by the medical rules of the UCI. They do not constitute a violation of the anti-doping regulations. Since this is a first offense, explains the International Cycling Union, Quintana is not declared ineligible and can therefore participate in competitions.
