The Covid-19 contagion is back in China, where 450 cases have been registered in the last 24 hours, the highest number since May. So much so that the Beijing authorities have ordered isolation for millions of people, in compliance with the ” zero Covid ” policy, despite most of the new cases being asymptomatic.
The restrictions began this week. In Lanzhou, the capital of the northwestern province of Gansu, its 4.4 million inhabitants were ordered to stay at home on Tuesday. From today, however, in Beihai, in the southern region of Guangxi, the isolation of 800 thousand people has been ordered. “Currently, the epidemic prevention and control situation in Beihai city is severe and complicated, and the risk of hidden transmission in the community is relatively high,” reads a government notice announcing the restrictions.
Earlier this week, the Wugang steel plant in central China’s Henan province announced a three-day lockdown after only one case of Covid was ascertained.
