This weekend Formula 1 will be back on track, 14 days after the celebration in Japan for Max Verstappen’s second consecutive world title. The frame will be that of the COTA of Austin, a track that entered the Circus world calendar for the first time ten years ago and one of the most popular with riders because of its insidious ups and downs and the various sections of the layout, which are very different from each other. The Texan track, which last year was the scene of a spectacular duel between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, has decided this time to welcome the protagonists of F1 with a novelty. In fact, the Circuit of the Americas has chosen to pay homage to one of the most iconic champions in the history of American and international motorsport, Mario Andretti.
The 82-year-old American legend, who recently returned to the track to perform a spectacular show at the wheel of a McLaren MP4 / 28 at the Laguna Seca circuit, was F1 world champion in 1978 and in his career he also achieved success in IndyCar and in the NASCAR championship. For these reasons, the Austin circuit managers have decided to celebrate it with dignity dedicating the last curve of the track to him, the 2o, which will henceforth be officially known as the ‘Andretti’. A special honor for ‘Piedone’, whose strong link with Italy makes him beloved also by many fans and enthusiasts of the Bel Paese. Next Thursday, on the eve of the race weekend, an official ceremony will be held in which the right homage will be paid to the ‘champion of two worlds’.
