Helsinki More than 600 new homes will be built on the edge of Länsi-Pasila Central Park. The apartments will be built in the area of ​​the current Pöllölaakso.

The construction of the new residential area will start in 2023, and it will probably be completed in the early 2030s. A total of nine new residential buildings will be built in the area.

The Pöllölaakso area will be freed up for construction when MTV moves to new premises in Helsinki’s Vallila at the end of 2022.

Construction company Skanska says that it will organize a name contest open to everyone for the new residential area. You can propose a new name on Skanska’s website until September 18.

“Even if the area’s future nickname will not appear on official maps, if it succeeds, it will live on in the mouths of the residents and at best will become known more widely,” says the naming designer of the City of Helsinki Johanna Lehtonen in the construction company’s bulletin.

According to Lehtonen, a good name binds the past and present of the area and draws, for example, from nature or a local characteristic.

“Furthermore, a good name is easy to write, pronounce, remember and pronounce.”

Panel chooses a maximum of five finalists from the name suggestions, from which the winner will be voted. The winning name proposal will be announced in October 2022.

The jury includes representatives of Skanska, the City of Helsinki, L Arkkitehtie and MTV.

The area under construction has been called Pöllölaakso since the 1960s.
