Column | I was sure my child was going to die – and I was wrong again

My favorite panicky parenting includes constant fear and a deep belief that when a child sneezes, it is an automatic sign of a serious illness, writes Jaakko Kangasluoma in his column.

My feet went limp and I fainted. I watched with mixed feelings of horror as my child hung on a vertical wall ten meters high with only his hands. I knew now he was going to die.

Not dead. He had just started a new hobby, and I saw for the first time what climbing really means. When I token, I made a familiar observation about myself and my way of being a parent.
