Some Western politicians dubbed the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) with the participation of Russia and China the formation of an anti-Western front. This suggests that the minds of American and Western elites are full of domineering and paranoid confrontational thinking, writes on Thursday, September 15, the newspaper Global Times.
The publication commented on the current situation with a well-known Chinese proverb.
“They can only understand and talk about the concepts of the SCO with their narrow horizons. And if there’s a Chinese proverb to comment on that, it’s “don’t ask a sparrow how an eagle flies,” the article says.
The author notes that the SCO will never turn into an “Eastern NATO”, since the relations between the members of the association are created for the purpose of global development.
“She (Shanghai Organization. – Ed.) will never become an organization against the West. And if the West really feels the crisis, then it needs not to sow discord and not weaken the enthusiasm of countries wishing to participate in this organization, but to seriously think about what went wrong in its perception of the world, ”the journalist points out.
Earlier Thursday, the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization began in Samarkand. For the first time in three years, Russian President Vladimir Putin is taking part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO member states. At the event, the Russian leader has meetings with foreign leaders in bilateral and multilateral formats.
In particular, on the first day of the summit, Putin held talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, and President of Uzbekistan. The Russian leader criticized the attempts of the West to create a unipolar world that is absolutely unacceptable for the vast majority of states. His Chinese counterpart noted that Beijing, together with Moscow, is ready to set an example of a responsible world power and put the world on a path of sustainable and positive development.
The SCO summit will be held on September 15 and 16 in Uzbekistan. It will be attended by 15 heads of state. This is the first face-to-face discussion between the leaders of the SCO member states since the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
