The US space agency NASA announced that the take-off of Boeing’s “Stayliner” spacecraft, which was supposed to carry out its first manned flight by transporting astronauts to the International Space Station, was canceled Monday, only about two hours before its launch date, due to a technical problem.
“We have canceled the launch attempt tonight,” NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said in a post on the X platform, adding, “As I said previously, NASA’s first priority is safety. We will go when we are ready.”
For its part, the United Launch Alliance (ULA), which manufactured the Atlas 5 space rocket, which was scheduled to carry the vehicle into orbit, announced that it had detected a defect in one of the rocket’s valves.
It is theoretically possible to try again to take off on Tuesday, as well as on Friday and Saturday, but no new date has been announced immediately.
