Checo Pérez, winner of the Monaco GP this Sunday, joined the Red Bull team at the end of 2020 and the following year, with 190 points, he won the Azerbaijan GP and finished fourth in the World Championship, which was won by his Dutch teammate Max Verstappen, current leader of the championship, followed by the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and the Mexican driver himself.
In the seven races held this year, Pérez has already scored 110 points and has been on the podium four times, in addition to becoming the first Mexican to achieve a pole position, in Saudi Arabia.
“It’s been an incredible week for me,” Checo Perez said in a Red Bull team statement.
“Winning in Monaco is a dream for any driver and then being able to announce that I will continue with the team until 2024 makes me extremely happy. I am proud to be part of this team, in which I feel completely at home. We have achieved great moments as a team and this season we are showing it. Let’s see where we can go in the future”he complemented.
Red Bull director Christian Horner stressed that the Mexican has done “a fantastic job since joining the team.”.
“This year he has moved up a notch and the gap to world champion Max Verstappen has narrowed significantly, as seen with his pole position in Jeddah and powerful victory in Monaco. We are delighted that he will be with us until 2024. Together with Max, I think we have a driver pairing that can give us the biggest prizes in Formula One.”
