The commitment is to meet again in fifteen days (even if there is still nothing official), probably still in the Roman residence of Silvio Berlusconi, Villa Grande. The day after the center-right government summit between Lega and Forza Italia tells of a climate of great cordiality and the common will to seek points of contact and hide those that divide.
At the table in addition to the former Cav and number one in via Bellerio Matteo Salvini, the six ministers sat down, (the Azzurri Renato Brunetta, Mariastella Gelmini and Mara Carfagna, the Northern League players Giancarlo Giorgetti, Erika Stefani, Massimo Garavaglia) and the four group leaders, the forcers Anna Maria Bernini and Paolo Barelli, and Riccardo Molinari and Massimiliano Romeo of the Carroccio. The president of Fi accompanied by his girlfriend, the deputy Marta Fascina, did the honors. Also present were the national coordinator of the party Antonio Tajani and the senator Licia Ronzulli, responsible for relations with the allies of Fi. Among the guests also Gianni Letta, who has always been Berlusconi’s right hand man and his ambassador to the Quirinale.
The political sense of the summit was the agreement (or rather the exchange) of the majority / Quirinale. On the one hand, Berlusconi has committed himself again, as he had already done in the center-right summit also extended to Giorgia Meloni, not to pursue a proportional reform but to keep the bar firm on the majority. On the other hand, Salvini guaranteed maximum unity, also with FdI, on the match of the election of the President of the Republic.
Berlusconi’s name has not been officially mentioned, and neither has he proposed, but among the participants at the summit there was a palpable conviction that the former Cav has every intention of taking the field and that he is seriously considering the possibility of climbing. al Colle instead of Sergio Mattarella. Hypothesis B, or rather that of Gianni Letta at the Quirinale, certainly an institutional and less divisive figure who could more easily catalyze a few votes from the Center Left.
At the moment, numbers in hand, the Center-right is missing 49 votes from the fourth ballot to elect the Head of State and Berlusconi’s work in the coming weeks will be to try to bring the 41 parliamentarians of Italia Viva to this side, given the historic relationship with Matteo Renzi since the time of the Nazarene Pact. If Iv’s consent arrives, the blue leader would miss less than ten votes. A work in progress to be developed strictly behind the scenes.
