‘Innovation’ appears to be the main keyword of the Ferrari F1-75, the car that will compete in the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship. The Scuderia di Maranello had to rethink and presented a completely alternative model to those offered by its rivals up to now. On the other hand, the Circus is facing the greatest aerodynamic revolution in its recent history: adapting is a must, interpreting the changes in the best possible way is strongly recommended.
The head of the loom area Enrico Cardile commented the new Ferrari: “The F1-75 marks the return to three-dimensional backgrounds, a technical content that has been missing in Formula 1 since 1982. It will be an innovative car, far from the one presented by Formula 1, despite extremely restrictive regulations. It will be a car that, to be fast, will want to run low and stiff. In summary, it was a great challenge for the engineers and it will be a great challenge for the drivers. We worked in an extremely complex context: on the one hand, a change in technical regulations as radical as has not been seen for 40 years; as many changes have occurred on the sporting regulations that have changed the format of the race weekend, all against the backdrop of a budget cap. This forced us to define many objectives, sometimes in contrast with each other and all challengers. To jump out of it, we had to prioritize, among all these goals, and some we achieved, others we came close but we didn’t completely reach them. We have already entered the development phase of the car during the season with the aim, not only of achieving the objectives we have not completely achieved but, indeed, of doing much better.“.
“There is so much innovation on this machine“Continued Cardile. “We approached the development with curiosity and a great desire to explore many different directions. The bodywork of the car is very distant from what have been the trends of recent years. Rear suspension is something Ferrari has never had. Then there are many invisible innovations, but no less important for this reason, which have allowed us to continue to have technical functions, despite the new regulations. The budget cap has inevitably reduced the resources available. Our choice, last year, to contain developments on the SF21 helped us a lot to mitigate their effects in the development of the F1-75. From a technical point of view I have to say that, everything we had in mind, we were able to develop it and bring it to the car. We have already defined a development plan, both aerodynamics and mechanics. Obviously the budget cap dictates a pragmatism of development and, therefore, I expect that the frequency of updates will not be as high as we have been used to in the past. Two other parameters that will play a decisive role and can move resources in one direction and another will be the reliability of the car and accidents in the race“.
