Auto, registrations drop by 0.85% compared to a year ago. Demand in crisis also due to the exhaustion of incentives
Car registrations in Italy still decreasing: in July foot on the brake from the year before. According to data released by the Ministry of Transport, the registrations amounted to 109,580 units0.85% less than a year ago.
The discesa is decidedly more contained than the -15% of the previous two monthsbut it is still a symptom of one question always in crisis also due to the exhaustion of incentives.
And so the final balance of the first seven months of the year indicates that the 793,856 registrations mark one contraction of 20.3% compared to the same period last year and about 36% on pre-pandemic levels After twelve months in red, the thirteenth decline in car registrations in Italy came, which recorded a contraction of 0.9% compared to July 2021 and 28.5% compared to July 2019, i.e. compared to the last month of July before the pandemic.
But the Promotor Study Center he also points out that “the situation on the car market therefore remains very serious and the effect on sales of incentives for scrapping launched on 6 April is so far decidedly modest. In addition to the limited effect of the incentives, there are many elements that are heavily penalizing the Italian car market.
In 2020 the onset of the pandemic it caused a first drastic drop compared to 2019 which is still very difficult to recover “. However, the pandemic is not the only cause of the car’s current difficulties because – explains Promotor – “the psychological and concrete effects of the war in Ukraine and of the sanctions taken against Russia to which are added the crisis in the supply of microchips and other essential components for the production of cars, the return of inflation, the end of money at no cost or in any case very low for companies and now also the possibility of monetary policies no longer expansive “.
The Italian car market, but also in Europe, – underlines the Centro Studi Promotor- it is caught between two emergencies. A crisis of demand and a serious crisis of supply too. The impact on the sector is very heavy and the consequences for consumers are certainly not slight.
Despite the downsizing of demand – said Gian Primo Quagliano, president of Centro Studi Promotor – the Product shortage is now so strong that it has very negative effects for potential buyers of both new and used cars.
For the new ones, the waiting times for delivery have increased considerably and the actual prices charged by the dealers have increased because the discounts that in normal times were granted to buyers and which could reach up to 10% on the price list have been significantly reduced.
On the other hand, the July economic survey of the Centro Studi Promotor shows that 95% of dealers report low stock of new cars. For Stellantis – according to Anfia data – the market share was around 35% in July 2022 compared to around 36% in the same month 2021. At the brand level, there was a recovery of + 53.7% for Alfa Romeo.
