Spotify is reportedly allowing some Android users to test a new Spotify Car Mode focused on the rumor, this after removing Car View last year with no obvious replacement.

It is unclear at this point if the car mode is available for iOS or if for the moment it is only in the testing phase on Android.

While the current version of the car mode that Spotify is testing has a tab that allows you to access your recently played music, the search screen has been replaced by a voice control feature. The interface for controlling what’s currently playing has a similar layout to Spotify’s regular mode, which should allow you to use muscle memory (without the many visual distractions found on the standard screen).

The similarity of the new Spotify Car Mode with the normal interface solves a problem that some users had with the previous Car View, in fact when Spotify “withdrew” it, many users were very happy with it, to the point of comparing it to “a liberation, ”saying it required more of their attention to use as it was very unfamiliar.
On the other hand, with the new Spotify Car Mode, in fact, when you listen to music while connected to a car via Bluetooth, you may be asked to “test the new car mode”, and compared to the old version now the drivers they can easily browse and search for different music to play.
This is made possible by a three-tab design to match the main Spotify app, compared to Car View, which focused solely on the player’s view. The Home tab is now much less dense and therefore easier to navigate and tap without looking directly at it, and your regular home page suggestions are scrollable in groups that snap into place.
Viewing Spotify’s car mode player is super simple, with just play / pause, skip, shuffle and like buttons, along with an easy-to-access microphone button for voice controls. Voice controls, also accessible from the center tab, are your way to search Spotify’s music and podcast library while in car mode, and the Library tab offers quick access to the music you’ve listened to most recently.
Hopefully, it eventually becomes part of the app – unfortunately, drivers will inevitably use their phones to control their music while driving, and that experience should be as fast as possible.
