Local media reported that the man died in the event, as the specimen “ripped off the individual’s head and arms”. Although the event occurred on January 5, the issue became relevant again because the fishermen have not been able to return to their activities due to the presence of sharks on the beaches.
“Great white sharks are most frequent in the Gulf of California (where the attack occurred) during December and January, when pregnant females enter the areasaid spokesmen for Tracking Sharks to the newspaper ‘El Clarín’.

José Luis Reina, president of a local fishing cooperative, said that the attack occurred around 11 a.m. on Thursday 5 in an area of open sea between Huivulai Island and San José Beach.
“He was diving when the animal attacked him, ripping off his head impressively and biting him on both shoulders,” said José Bernal, spokesman for the municipality, to the newspaper ‘El Imparcial’.
It should be noted that the authorities had warned of the presence of animals in the area. It is understood that Manuel López, deceased in the event, disregarded orders by having to generate resources for his family with the fishing he could do that day.
“Many colleagues avoid going out, but there are many others who run the risk, right now what remains is to avoid the water for a few days and buy special bracelets to scare away these animals”, Queen indicated.
The newspaper ‘El Yaqui de México’ reported that about nine thousand fishermen from southern Sonora are in an economic crisis because, for fear of the presence of sharks, they have chosen not to go out to carry out the activity.
