LONDON (Reuters) – British police said on Monday they had charged Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey with past sex crimes, and the actor is due to stand trial as early as Thursday.
Prosecutors last month cleared all four charges against Spacey, 62, of sexually assaulting three men, plus one charge of causing a person to engage in sexual activity with penetration without consent.
Police said the alleged abuses took place between March 2005 and April 2013 – four of them in the capital London and one of them in Gloucestershire. The crimes involve a man who is now over 40 years old, and two men who are now over 30 years old.
“He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court at 10am on Thursday 16 June,” London’s Metropolitan Police announced, confirming that Spacey was framed on five charges authorized by the Crown Prosecutor’s Service (CPS) after your prison.
Spacey, who won Oscars for “The Usual Suspects” and “American Beauty” in the 1990s, said he was willing to defend himself in the UK and was confident any trial would prove his innocence.
One of Hollywood’s biggest stars in recent years, Spacey has disappeared from the public eye after being accused of sexual misconduct five years ago.
