The British government announced that people infected with the Corona virus in England will not be legally required to enter self-quarantine, starting next week, in an easing that comes as part of the “coexistence with Covid-19” plan.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said it was time for the UK to balance the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, away from the “state mandate”, as it prepared to end the legal requirement for self-isolation for those infected with Covid-19.
And the British “PA Media” news agency reported that Johnson is expected to repeal all laws related to the pandemic, which restrict the freedoms of citizens in England, when he presents his vision for the future on Monday.
Johnson will tell MPs upon their return from the February parliamentary recess that the vaccine program, testing and new treatments can be relied upon to keep citizens safe.
In an interview on the BBC’s Sunday morning programme, he said the government must now encourage personal responsibility.
He said, “We have reached a stage where we believe that you can achieve a balance away from the mandate of the state, and away from banning certain courses of action, and imposing specific courses of action, in favor of encouraging personal responsibility.”
He added that citizens should remain vigilant and get vaccinations if they have not yet had them.
“I think it is very important that we remain vigilant,” he said.
Johnson refused to rule out a re-imposition of restrictions in the face of a new mutant emerging in the future.
“We will certainly not ask citizens not to be careful,” he said. Covid remains a serious disease, especially if you haven’t been vaccinated.”
The British Prime Minister said the UK could not continue to spend £2 billion in a month on coronavirus tests.
“I think we need flexibility, but we shouldn’t stay focused on testing,” he said. “We shouldn’t be spending at a rate of two billion pounds a month, which we were doing in January.”
This comes after the British Prime Minister said that the new mutant of the virus is expected to follow a pattern similar to Omicron in being more moderate than the first Covid-19 mutant.
By the end of the week, officials said, self-isolation regulations for those who have tested positive and those in close contact with them will be removed.
Local authorities will be required to manage outbreaks in cooperation with pre-existing public health authorities, as they do with other diseases.
