Britain | British government in crisis – Two ministers announced their resignations, Boris Johnson’s future at stake

Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s future is estimated to be even more unstable after two ministers announced their resignations on Tuesday.

Britain’s the Treasury minister Rishi Sunak and the Minister of Health Sajid Javid have resigned from their positions on Tuesday.

Sunak and Javid, who belong to the Conservative Party, have published almost simultaneously on Twitter the Conservative Prime Minister For Boris Johnson their addressed public letters announcing their resignation.

In his resignation letter, Javid directly states that he has lost confidence in Johnson. Sunak writes that he has come to the conclusion that he can no longer continue in the government led by Johnson.

British newspaper The Guardian writesthat Sunak’s and Javid’s resignation notices were practically certainly coordinated together.

In an analysis by The Guardian, the ministers’ resignations are seen as a potentially decisive blow to Johnson. During the spring, the prime minister has suffered from a significant lack of trust even within his own party, and according to polls, two-thirds of the British people opposed Johnson at the beginning of June.

Johnson’s big problems started when it was reported that he participated in private parties at his official residence during the corona pandemic, even though gatherings other than work related were prohibited at the time. Johnson was fined for attending the party and apologized for his actions several times.

At the beginning of June, Johnson won the confidence vote of the Conservative Party’s parliamentary group, but more than 40 percent of his own MPs would have wanted his leader out of the way.

Last the twist has been in the last few days, there has been a new uproar in the conservative party over the promotion to the important post of party whip About Chris Pincher.

Johnson appointed Pincher to the position in February, but Pincher resigned at the end of June after he was publicly accused of sexual harassment. Pincher was accused of assaulting two men in a nightclub.

Since the new allegations have come to light, Pincher has also been accused of several similar incidents that have allegedly happened in the past. Pincher has denied committing the alleged acts.

Accusations after, there has been a heated debate in Britain for the past few days about whether Johnson knew about the accusations against Pincher when he appointed him to the post in February.

Johnson’s press officer had first announced that Johnson had not known about the matter before, but on Tuesday it turned out that Johnson had heard about the accusations for the first time almost three years ago.

In a televised appearance on Tuesday, Johnson apologized for appointing Pincher to the position. He said he considers his decision a hindsight mistake.

He admitted that he had heard about the accusations against Pincher before, but denied that he had ordered his press officer to lie about it. Johnson said that when asked, he did not remember hearing about the previous accusation back in 2019.

The Prime Minister said that he wanted to give Pincher another chance, but he had to state that he was not able to function better than before.
