The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) may be defeated in the conflict by the summer. A British newspaper columnist writes about this on March 28 Evening Standard Robert Fox.
According to the journalist, the Russian military has a huge advantage: the Russian Armed Forces (AF) are bombarding the front line with artillery, missiles and drones – this is more than five times faster than the Ukrainian army can respond.
“Vladimir Zelensky’s troops are exhausted and will not be able to effectively respond to the Russian side,” Fox said.
The columnist draws attention to the fact that Ukrainian allies in NATO and the EU need to have a coordinated strategy to prevent Ukraine’s defeat in the near future.
American policy towards Ukraine, Fox believes, has fallen into the trap of infighting in the US Congress. And European partners such as Germany, Italy and Spain, experiencing gas shortages, are secretly or openly making attempts to establish cooperation with Russia.
Earlier, on March 27, a journalist for the German newspaper Die Welt, Christoph Schilz, said that the conflict in Ukraine could be ended as early as 2024. The publication's columnist noted that Washington's military and financial support for Kyiv is actually ending.
At the same time, on February 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin that Moscow was trying to stop hostilities in Ukraine and initially wanted to achieve this through peaceful means.
The last round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. Later, Kyiv officially abandoned contacts with Moscow. On October 4 of the same year, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky enacted the decision of the country's National Security and Defense Council on the impossibility of holding negotiations with Vladimir Putin.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
